There are only a few days left until the start the of the 9th Photomonth in Krakow. In contrast to previous years, this year the ShowOFF Section starts on May 13, together with the full Festival, and not as a warm-up.

Do you take pictures and dream of starting a spectacular career as a photographer? Would you like to meet an expert on photography and talk to him/her about your work? Do you believe that a meeting like this might be a turning point in your career? Showcase your achievements during the VI Portfolio Review during Photomonth!

This year, the Festival is full of innovation, the peak of which is the presence of guest curators Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin. At their initiative, we’ve invited dozens writers and artists who, playing with identity, have together created biographies of fictitious artists and their works. 

 Welcome to a Photomonth in Krakow accompanying event. The opening of the photography exhibition “PortfolioNOW” will take place on Thursday, May 12 at. 19:00 at ul. Generała Zajączka 8 in Warsaw. You’ll be able to see photos by a photographer who does not want to see the public at his vernissage. 

Photomonth in Kraków is once again inviting all talented photographers to take part in the Portfolio Review. The 6th Portfolio Review will take place on 21 May at the Manggha Centre of Japanese Art and Technology.

We are delighted to report that after its meetings (12–13 March 2011), the sittcomm.award competition Jury, comprising Mira Keratova, Anna Theiss, Zuzana Flaskova, and Roman Babjak have decided upon four finalists.

The ninth Festival will include over twenty exhibitions in the Main Programme, twelve in the ShowOFF Section, displays of photography as part of SlideNite, the final of the sitcomm.award competition, and numerous meetings, lectures, panel discussions, workshops, portfolio overviews, films, readings, and meetings with artists.

After long deliberations, the jury – Mikołaj Długosz, Rafał Milach, Krzysztof Miller, Jakub Śwircz, Wojciech Wieteska and Magda Wunsche & Samsel – selected 12 projects from over 500 applications. Exhibitions held in May will include a classical reportage, a personal photo memoir, a conceptual, minimalist vision of an office, and many others. The works are extremely varied, but they are united by the artists’ fresh look at reality and their excellent photographic skills. 

Joanna Rajkowska and Sebastian Cichocki, authors of the book Psy z Üsküdar [The Dogs of Üsküdar]: the book is still on sale.
